From the team over at Lac qui Parle Valley:
The LqPV YES! Team toured the Big Stone Power Plant recently. The team was given this unique opportunity by the Minnesota Valley REC after completing an essay on how the team would benefit from this experience. The YES! team traveled by coach bus to the plant and was treated to lunch at the Ortonville Pizza Ranch after the tour was completed.
“We learned valuable information about the coal-fired plant and how it operates.” members said. The YES! Team strives to engage local communities to learn about energy efficiency and ways to reduce carbon emissions with educational workshops and community action projects.
“I think the most important message the students received was “compromise”. We need to find ways to combine our current energy generating methods with those that use renewable resources in order to really impact the global climate issue. Nobody has all the answers but at least these students are asking the questions.” stated YES! team coach Rachel Rigenhagen.
