Compass Learning Center’s Agriscaping Curriculum

By Jolene Carlson (YES! Coach)

Compass Learning Center’s YES! team received funding from the McKnight Foundation to implement their Agriscaping curriculum.  Agriscaping is using food to create edible and functional landscapes.  Students designed a MN Edible Plant PowerPoint Presentation identifying the functions and classification of plants.  They then designed three Agriscapes that were planted at the Compass Learning Center, Farmhouse Market in New Prague, and Ney Nature Center in Henderson.  Students learned how sustainable agriculture supports nutrient dense food production.  They also worked on soil amendment and plant diversity to create edible and sustainable landscapes.  Thank you McKnight Foundation.

Major funding for the YES! program was provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).
