We, the WWG Earth YES! team, are proud to say that we are moving on to our next project. We are going to phone recycling now. In the past we’ve done things such as collect plastic bags and holiday lights. But now we are moving onto something else. In this project, we raise awareness of cell phone recycling in our community, encouraging them to recycle their old, used cell phones. We hope that this project goes extremely well for us as we try to get the community involved with us, just like our previous projects. Our projects have been successful in the past, so let us hope for the same outcome for this one.
Update: We have an update on our cell phone recycling. We started in the beginning weeks of February and collected phones through the end of February. We surpassed our goal of collecting 100 cell phones. The phones were shipped to the GRC Foundation and in return we received money. The money we received was donated to Mary and Martha’s Pantry which is a local food shelf in Westbrook, Minnesota. Mary and Martha’s Pantry helps provide over 40,000 lbs of food for about 2,000 people. As one student mentioned, “I feel proud, not to only be saving cell phones from the landfills but also helping those in need.”
