On November 1, the coach and 2 students from the Sleepy Eye team and a representative from Mankato West went to the workshop “Capturing Savings from Public Building Energy Efficiency: Bench-marking through Financing – Getting your Project Done”. The workshop was held by Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The workshop was focused on providing resources and tools to help plan and implement energy reduction projects. They learned about bench-marking, energy assessments, and financing from the Minnesota State Mankato’s Climate Action Plan and Cheri Schneider from the Weidt Group. Sleepy Eye is excited about analyzing and sharing their own data from the cities buildings to the city, school boards, facility use committee, and environmental coordinator for the district. Everyone was given a tour of the new dining hall, composting area, and campus lighting. Deb Reinarts, the Sleepy Eye coach, says she already shared some ideas with their head custodial staff and is interested in starting composting in their school. Overall, a great workshop where YES! teams were able to learn more about energy efficiency, uploading data to B3, and waste programs.
