Through generous grant support by the McKnight Foundation, YES! continues to work in collaboration with Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy to increase climate literacy in Minnesota. This collective effort has thus far resulted in YES! students, coaches and staff benefiting from Climate Generation’s knowledge and know-how at 2 YES! Fall Summits, 3 customized Winter Workshops and 1 Climate Convening hosted by the Albany YES! team on February 23, 2016.
At the Climate Convening hosted by the Albany YES! team, I was especially impressed by the two YES! students who shared their climate stories. Anna Haynes spoke about her experience being surrounded by water to swim in and enjoy and its importance to her (read her story here), while Madison Schmitz gave an impassioned talk entitled “A Mooseless Minnesota”. I hope you enjoy these wonderful stories.
To find out how we are doing on moving the needle on climate literacy, all students, coaches and staff participated in a climate literacy pre-test. Coming up this spring, everyone will take a post test. We are hoping the needle will shift indicating a more knowledgeable and concerned body of students and adults on mitigation of climate change!
